Wedding Transportation. Is Renting A Limo Or Suv Really Important For The Wedding?
If you have people to drive, then no way. I almost didnt get any transportation either, but we only did as a thank for our wedding party. Its really just a way to get them to the reception so they dont have to worry about that and getting back. Other than that, its a waste of money, but its also really our only splurge. Its really truly not needed.

No, it's not that important for most weddings and not at all important for a cash strapped wedding.
I say this with the understanding that there are special circumstances. I guarantee you that fitting a poofy dress into a Ford Escort is tough indeed. A spacious limo can prevent such a dress from getting creased and wrinkled before you get to the reception.
If you are totally in love with the idea of a limo, go for it. Consider where you can cut costs in other areas, if your budget is tight. Keep in mind that if you want the limo to take you home that evening, it's going to cost A LOT for the driver's time.
No, I think it's a ridiculous waste of money actually. For our wedding we booked cabs for a particular time to pick us up and take us to the ceremony location. After the ceremony we'd intended to catch a cab to the reception but our photographer was kind enough to drive us there.
Renting limos, SUVs, etc can cost upwards of $500. I'm glad we saved that and spent it on nicer wines for our guests at the reception.
Of course not.
It is just an added expense that is meant to show your status on your wedding day. Most people want to "stand out" on their big day and renting a large limo/SUV to get from the ceremony to the reception is how most people choose to do that.
It really is a pointless extra expense in the grand scheme of things. Unless you are driving for hours between your ceremony and reception, I see no reason. But in the end it is up to the bride and groom.
No. It's just to show off. There's no reason to rent an expensive vehicle when your own car works just fine. However if you have consumed any alcohol at your reception, then you are in no condition to drive to your hotel afterward and that is the only time you need to rent a different vehicle than your own. Limos, etc have a minimum time allotment of at least an hour that you have to rent them and most people aren't in their vehicles for an hour between the ceremony and reception. You can't apply the remainder of that hour to having them drive you anywhere after the reception.
